Scott Stack: new paintings

March 20 April 25, 2009
Opening reception for the artist Friday March 20th, 5-8pm

For his 2nd solo show at moniquemeloche, Scott Stack expands the conceptual reaches of his investigation of night vision surveillance presenting four new paintings. His linear geometry of thin, even bands of varying shades of green now reveals a pointedly new subject matter -- the figure -- adding yet another layer of meaning to his elusive imagery. Concurrently, the infinite possibilities Stack sees in the structure of the apartment building continue to develop in an ongoing series which began in 2006. Finally, a new monumental painting executed in shades of black, white, and grey fills the project space introducing a new exploration of mapping a picture in space.

Scott Stack (b. 1952) lives in Oak Park, IL. He has had solo exhibitions at moniquemeloche, White Columns NY, Chicago Cultural Center, and Thomas Barry Fine Arts in Minneapolis. Selected group exhibitions include the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Drawing Center NY, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Hyde Park Art Center, and Gahlberg Gallery. Reviews of his work have appeared in Art in America, Art Papers, New Art Examiner, and Stack was chosen by Chicago Magazine as one of eight Chicago artists to collect now. Stack received a 2009 Fellowship in Visual Arts from the Illinois State Arts Council.
