| ABOUT
The ALEXANDER OCHS GALLERIES BERLIN I BEIJING was opened in 1997. Alexander Ochs founded the gallery with the intention of representing East Asian artists in Europe, with a special focus on Chinese Contemporary art.
Since 2008 the gallery cooperates with international artists for exhibitions and exterior projects.
The Beijing branch WHITE SPACE (founded in February 2004) managed and now owned by the Chinese artist Tian Yuan, is autonomously developing its own program with its all-Chinese team.
Both galleries will cooperate in the future at art fairs and exhibition projects.
The new Beijing branch of ALEXANDER OCHS GALLERIES BERLIN I BEIJING will be opened in the Caochangdi District. Four exhibitions per year will showcase important positions of European contemporary art.
The gallery is the exclusive representative in Europe for Miao Xiaochun, Yang Shaobin, Yin Xiuzhen and other important artists.
ALEXANDER OCHS GALLERIES BERLIN I BEIJING is also initiating solo exhibitions in museums and institutions for its artists, for example for Xu Bing in the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst (the National East-Asian Art Museum of Berlin) in 2004 and for Fang Lijun in cooperation with the Berlin collector Erika Hoffmann in the Kupferstichkabinett of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (the National Engravings Cabinet of Berlin) in 2006. In 2002 Alexander Ochs curated a solo exhibition for Fang Lijun in the Forum Ludwig Aachen as well as 2006 in the Today Art Museum Beijing. In 2007 he curated with Tian Yuan the inaugural exhibition “Arrogance and Romance” for the ORDOS ART MUSUEM in Chinese Mongolia. YIN XIUZHEN, who represented China at the Venice Biennial 2007, has been chosen for this years Shanghai Biennial and she is invited to the 2009 inaugural exhibition of FIRSTSITE:newsite in Colchester, being the only Chinese artist – along with Ai Weiwei – in this show.
The gallery has participated in various art fairs since 1999 such as ART FORUM BERLIN, ART COLOGNE, ARCO Madrid, PULSE London and New York and in Asia the CIGE Beijing, the ART Beijing and the shContemporary Shanghai and will join abc art berlin contemporary this year.
