Studio Voltaire is the first and only artist-led gallery and studio complex in South-West London. Established in 1994, The organisation has developed a reputation for supporting artists at a pivotal stage in their careers through an ambitious public programme of exhibitions, commissions, live events and offsite projects.

The organisation is committed to widening access to contemporary practice and runs an innovative and wide reaching education programme producing artist-led projects and activities for individuals and communities within the local area.

Studio Voltaire provides a much-needed resource of affordable studios to London-based artists. It is our key objective to create a supportive and critical atmosphere to develop diverse artistic practices and help provide career opportunities.

Founded in 1994, Studio Voltaire actively promotes the creation, presentation and access to contemporary art practice through our Exhibition, Education and Studio Programmes. The organisation is committed to widening access to contemporary art and to harnessing art as a vehicle for further education and learning. We are able to offer affordable studios in a good location in central Clapham with easy access to public transport and local amenities. Our key objective is to create a supportive and critical atmosphere to develop diverse artistic practices. We regret that we can only offer studio spaces to artists working within the parameters of contemporary art practice.
Applications for studios must be submitted by completing a Studio Voltaire application form (download at end of this page) with a current CV and up to 6 images of recent work.
 
All applicants will be informed in writing if they have been successful in joining the waiting list. Please that the committee may deem some applicants unsuitable or unable to meet Studio Voltaire's requirements.
 
When a studio becomes available the studio committee will review the list and offer a license and internal membership to an artist that the committee believes will best meet Studio Voltaire's artistic and charitable objectives.
 
In the case of a shared studio, the suitability of the applicant will be further determined by the compatibility of the applicant with the existing licensee(s) and their respective working practices.
The studio committee is comprised of two of the Studio Voltaire office staff, a studio member, and a Director of the Board. It is chaired by an external, independent arts professional with a good understanding of Studio Voltaire’s aims, objectives and vision. The committee will operate in rotation to ensure parity in the decision making process.
