The Studio System Experimental Residency Project is a unique attempt to bridge the gap between artistic practice and the public. Eleven artists will be living, working and creating in our Main Gallery and You, the visitor, can directly interact with the artists to discuss inspirations, sources, thoughts, feelings, content and context as well as chart the progression through the works over the period of 29 days that the project encompasses. This continues the TAM's dedication to exploring new ways of understanding and engaging with the art of our time and those that produce it. We thank these artists, from Torrance, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, for their openness and generosity in committing to this unusual presentation: Sydney Croskery, Elizabeth Dorbad, Nancy Evans, Josh Hagler, Seth Kaufman, Hung Viet Nguyen, Don Porcella, Dickson Schneider, Mariangeles Soto-Diaz, Vincent Tomczyk and Valerie Wilcox. Artist Dickson Schneider and his Free Art Cart will be distributing his art works directly to the public for free throughout this project's run. During the month the artists will be available during open hours, Tues-Sat, 11am-5pm, to discuss their ideas, methods, materials and their thoughts with the public. The Museum is free to everyone and is located at 3320 Civic Center, Torrance, CA 90503. The project will culminate in a Closing Reception on Saturday August 29th, 6-9 pm, to display their results and to respond to the audience. --- The Torrance Art Museum is the premiere visual art space to view contemporary art in the South Bay. It is a program of the City of Torrance Cultural Services Division of the Community Services Department. The Cultural Services Division is responsible for City sponsored arts and culture initiatives held at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center and throughout the City. |
