ArtGene is accepting applications for their (Inter)national Collaborative Fellowship 2008/09. Successful applications will be based on the quality of the artist's work, the artistic merit of the project, its compatibility with the physical space and services available. The successful applicant will spend the majority of their time focusing on the production of their own new work in response to Art Gene's research remit: "the role of artists in the regeneration of the social, natural and built environment". Fee: £4000 + studio provided.
Applications should be submitted via email. Please attach the following support material(s), where appropriate.
Up to 10 Jpeg images, links to video works, which can be viewed on line, catalogues and/or reviews featuring previous works / exhibitions etc. Please note slides are no longer accepted.
(If none of the above is available, please submit printed images/DVD’s (PAL/MAC/Quick Time compatible) with your application via post).
Application materials are not normally returned unless specifically requested. This enables us to keep your details on record and inform you of future opportunities at Art Gene. Please Do Not send originals, irreplaceable art works or documents.
Selected CV or résumé listing your most important exhibitions, publications, awards and education.
Please ensure that all submission materials are clearly marked with your name.
General and specialist listing of materials and equipment to be used. (Please tell us if you have specialist working requirements, to enable us to facilitate your practice.)
Artists may apply to share a studio, however they will share the fee.
Joint applications should be submitted on a single application and associated support material should be combined.
Practice and Context
The Fellow will be asked to undertake one or more of the following:
Lead a workshop with a targeted group over a maximum duration of 2 days during the residency period and/or
Provide opportunities for public interaction alongside the creation of new work.
And will be required to
Contribute to the Art Gene website through the artists own dedicated page. Artists are required to proactively engage with the production of a page about themselves for our website. The page should provide background information and serve as a record of work undertaken and observations made during the residency period aimed at making a focused contribution to our research.
Give media interviews and permit themselves to be photographed/filmed/give radio or other media and publicity interviews as required by Art Gene.
On completion of the fellowship the Artist will be expected to:
Provide a small example of their work in an exhibitable form for Art Gene’s collection exhibited within the building.
Allow documentation of finished works produced during the residency, in Art Gene’s programme archive, and for information/publicity purposes.
All images used will be credited to the Artist by Art Gene.
New work created during the residency period, included in future exhibitions and publications, including on line, must display accreditation to Art Gene, i.e. “created at Art Gene. www.artgene.co.uk”.
