The Opportunity at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
We are looking for artists whose practice would benefit from this development opportunity; either through supporting and enriching an established research thread, working method or critical interest, or assisting in the development of new interests. The opportunity is open to visual artists and to artists working in other disciplines.
The Bursary for the Fellowship
• We are offering two fellowships of £7,500 each. This will cover an agreed research period within the galleries, as well as any agreed public outcomes.
What we provide

• Library and archive facilities.
• Staff expertise in a range of disciplines and a point of contact / support.
• A desk and computer facilities.
Your project will be judged on the following criteria
• Artistic merit and benefit to your practice.
• Originality of concept and rigour of research.
• Level of engagement with the collection.
• Ambition for potential public outcomes which increase visibility of the collection.

Submission instructions
To apply
• Applicants should be based in Scotland, or have strong educational or professional links and a demonstrated interest in developing work within a Scottish context.
• Applicants must submit a written proposal of not more than 1,000 words describing their current, or desired, area of research and outlining what they wish to gain from their time with us. In applying for the opportunity we would find it helpful if you could consider how you would structure your time in relation to this project.
• A current CV with full contact details.
• A CD of up to six images of recent work, up to 5 minutes of film, or other supporting material for those working outside the Visual Arts. All visuals must be of a good quality, high resolution, sharply focused, properly exposed. All material should be accompanied by a detailed list, which includes the title, date and medium of each piece of the work.
Time Scale
Deadline for applications is Friday, 14th January 2011. It is envisaged that the Fellowship will take place over a period of four to six months, with a start date before the end of March 2011.

Potential applicants will be asked to take part in an interview process. A selection panel will be made up of representatives from National Galleries of Scotland and Creative Scotland.
It will be necessary to make initial contact with candidates short listed for interview. Please provide details of a daytime phone number on which you can be contacted.
The successful candidates will be subject to Basic Disclosure Scotland security clearance.
