Scottish Sculpture Workshop is pleased to introduce the upcoming project Natural Bennachie, funded by Creative Scotland as part of the 2013 Year of Natural Scotland.

Natural Bennachie will see three artists collaborating with partners and the local community in exploring the natural heritage of the most prominent landmark in the North East of Scotland. The project will culminate in an eco-friendly public celebration, site-specific artworks and art-science collaborations. Scottish Sculpture Workshop (SSW) will lead the project in conjunction with The Bailies of Bennachie, Forestry Commission Scotland, Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service and the University of Aberdeen
There are currently three commission opportunities for this project:

Art-Science Collaboration
Natural Bennachie offers a unique opportunity to bring together multi-media artists to work alongside specialists in the fields of archaeological and ecological sciences in order to better understand the natural and cultural heritage surrounding our landscape.
The Land Residency and Site-Specific Public Art Commission offers an opportunity to an artist interested in participating with the Bennachie community – including the Forestry Commission, Ranger Service and the Bailies of Bennachie, and developing site-specific works.
Fee: £7000 plus travel and accommodation.
Materials Budget: £3000
The Digital Commission offers an opportunity to an artist interested in working with the natural and cultural heritage of Bennachie, exploring the concepts of what is natural? The artist will work with and carry out research within the local communities, collaborate with the other project participants and develop a film or sound work that reflects upon human interaction and impact on the natural environment.
Fee: £3250 plus travel and accommodation.
Materials Budget: £1000
The Art-Science Collaboration offers an opportunity to an artist interested in working with environmental sciences. The artist will work alongside the University of Aberdeen in carrying out a soil analysis of Bennachie, in order to explore past environments there. They will develop a body of work for exhibition that will be displayed with the scientific data gathered
