UNIDEE at Cittadellarte is changing. After 14 years as a residency programme, and a transitional 15th edition questioning the relevance of traditional residency schemes while testing out a new format, UNIDEE has evolved into a multifaceted platform, with a new educational programme based on interdisciplinary research, knowledge sharing and experience exchange, alongside a series of artists’ residency projects.
UNIDEE - University of Ideas offers an educational artistic programme of weekly residential modules taking place both at Cittadellarte and at international academic partners’ sites. An alternative to the traditional educational system, it works in synergy with international academies and public universities. It fosters processes of cross-pollination to investigate the relationship between art and public sphere, focusing on topics like social responsibility, urban transformation, participatory art practices, demopraxy, alternative models of local economic development, sustainability, etc.
Designed for artists, curators, students, social entrepreneurs, cultural project managers, etc., UNIDEE - University of Ideas’ modules put forward a participatory learning experience in a small group setting, through practices, methodologies and tools apt at forging knowledge while fostering relational skills, socially responsible behaviours that value diversity, “effective” horizontal thought processes, and the possibility to “err”, on a quest for new means of expression.
The programme is conceived as a long term endeavour with the mission to be engaging continuously with civil society not only through dialogue and active participation, but also through the (re)localisation of those processes of symbolic identification on the side of the modules’ and residencies’ participants, in Biella as well as in their own original social contexts and groups.
UNIDEE - University of Ideas' Modules for 2015:
UNIDEE - University of Ideas educational programme of weekly modules at Cittadellarte kicks off with its first year on May 4th and runs until November 27th, 2015.
Its programme for 2015 sets out to explore three broad concepts: temporality, responsibility, participation (www.cittadellarte.it/unidee). Analysed from a variety of angles (artistic, historical, geographic, philosophical, political, economic, anthropological, sociological, mediological, juridical, architectural, etc.), these three key topics will be unravelled together by participants, mentors and guests, through an exciting blend of formats spanning from the theoretical to the performative. The modules will encompass experiments in art history paradigms, activism, commons, prefigurative politics, territorial transformation, museology, visual narratives, social imagery, relational systems, new rituals, social cooking, urban space exploration, ideas gathering (etc.).
4-8th May, 2015 (DEADLINE: 04.04.2015)
Ubiquitous Infoscapes
Module curated by Salvatore Iaconesi & Oriana Persico
Ubiquitous Infoscapes combines experiential, theoretical, practice and performance based activities to broaden the participants' understanding and knowledge of the Ubiquitous Infoscape, and culminates in the creation of a small artistic gesture. How do the masses of data and information making up Ubiquitous Infoscapes radically transform both our lives and perception of the world? How do they affect public, private and intimate spaces, our rights, and our approach to knowledge-sharing, learning, expression and communication?
TOPICS/TAGS
participation, information, knowledge, experience, territories, public/private spaces, perception, behaviour, responsibility.
11-15th May, 2015 (DEADLINE: 11.04.2015)
Changing nothing so that everything is different
Module curated by Silvia Franceschini
Guest: Stefano Rabolli Pansera and Beyond Entropy
Through lectures, discussions and film screenings focusing on several examples of pedagogical and architectural initiatives attempting to define new operational tools for urban and rural environments, Changing nothing so that everything is different reflects on the idea of the city and its post-industrial evolution in Europe, while questioning the role of artistic practices in gentrification processes. It will apply Beyond Entropy's methodology of “Changing nothing so that everything is different” to analyse Cittadellarte as a possible paradigm for the regeneration of post-industrial cities.
TOPICS/TAGS
transformation, city, entropy, tools, collective imagination, responsibility.
18th-22nd May, 2015 (DEADLINE: 18.04.2015)
Curating as a form of assembly
Module curated by Aria Spinelli
Guest: Tullio Brunone (Laboratorio di Comunicazione Militante)
Taking from recent forms of anticapitalist protest and the political imaginaries that have been provoked by temporary occupations of public squares, Curating as a form of assembly focuses on alternative modes of thinking society. Exploring the potentiality of political imaginaries in a contemporary context, it discusses, also through assembly-building sessions, how ‘curating’ in its broadest sense is key to shifting power relations between artists, authors and contexts, specifically through the use of imaginative forms of political emancipation.
TOPICS/TAGS
art politics, activism, curating, curatorial, imagination, imaginary, exhibition, culture, transversality, participation, horizontality, consciousness, responsibility.
25-29th May, 2015 (DEADLINE: 25.04.2015)
Patterns and Music
Module curated by Massimiliano Viel
Patterns and Music puts forth an approach to music stemming from an analysis of listening, and proposes a series of techniques for music production as well as strategies to deal with music in its broadest acceptation. Alternating discussion of theoretical notions and listening experiences with practical laboratories (production/composition and performing with voice, body-percussion and found objects), it traces the consequences of embracing the conceptual frame of cognitive patterns when dealing with the complexities of the evolution of music structures.
TOPICS/TAGS
listening, music perception, pattern composition, history of Western music, performing arts, participation, temporality.
