UCS co-founders David George, Spencer Rowell and Fiona Yaron-Field have teamed with curator Mary George to find the best contemporary lens-based art in the UK. Following on from the incredible response to UCS 2014 Open Call we are inviting submissions from all emerging or established lens based artists for Uncertain States Open Call 2015.
SELECTORS
Our distinguished panel of selectors include the art historian, curator and writer Camilla Brown, Artistic Director Quad & Format International Photography Festival Louise Clements, artist and curator Leah Gordon, fine art photographer and professor Paul Hill MBE, Hoxton Mini Press publisher and photographer Martin Usborne, Director of Firecracker Fiona Rogers, Artist and writer Sharon Kivland, Founding editor of Photomonitor Christiane Monarchi, and Uncertain States.
OFFER
The unique selection process sees each artist being championed by one selector. The nine selected artists will be offered a group exhibition at Four Corners Gallery in London's vibrant East End to coincide with UCS's 6th anniversary and the opportunity to be featured in issue 24 of the Uncertain States broadsheet. This special edition will explore the curation of the Open Call, include biographies and statements from the artists and selectors, offering insight into the selection process. It will be distributed to V&A Museum London, Tate Britain, Turner Contemporary Margate, Arnolfini Bristol, Impressions Gallery Bradford, Ikon Gallery, Library of Birmingham, Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art Newcastle, Open Eye Gallery Liverpool & Norwich University of the Arts.
ELIGIBILITY
The Prize is open to all living British and international artists residing in the U.K. over the age of 18 years old on 12th July 2015.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Artists are required to submit the following:
1. Completed online entry form.
2. Images of up to 5 recent works, in digital format (jpg, max 2mb file size), and images of maximum of 1000 pixels resolution along the longest side at 300 dpi
3. An Artist Statement (350 - 500 words).
4. A non-refundable £15 application fee for one image and £25 for up to five images.
