BACKGROUND
So far the competition has featured hundreds of artists from all over the world, including Ai Weiwei, Jafar Panahi, Miriam Elia, Daniel Arzola, Sarah Maple, Steve Rosenthal, Robb Leech, Firoozeh Bazrafkan, Mehdi-Georges Lahlou among others.
"Brave" artists from around the world such as Ai Weiwei (who spent three months in prison and is banned from contacting the media), Jafar Panahi (several times arrested on charges of propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran), Johan van der Dong (no gallery in Europe has courage to show his work for the fear of attacks), Ferri Farahmandi, Azadeh Behroozi and many others, showed their works at the Freedom festival and still have the courage to create despite the threats to their lives and the safety of their family. Some are forced to hide behind a pseudonym; others withdraw their works or self-censor themselves to avoid "offending religious feelings".
ARTISTS TESTIMONIALS:
“The Passion for Freedom project embodies everything that I believe and it was the most amazing platform for my deeply personal work. I want the world to know that the oppression of women and girls must stop and that we must always question the rules of our cultures.”

“Passion for freedom festival was an eye opener, thought provoking and a passionate meeting of artistic minds. During the duration of the festival, the response was so positive and opened several discussions as well as many doors. As an artist it reinforces my place within society n raising awareness through my art.”

“Freedom is a fragile balance and they [PFF] stated this with their beautiful view and exhibition they worked on so carefully on. This festival deserves worldwide recognition and attention. It has more than proven its existence because it shows us how precious peace, freedom and security are.”
