BAU Institute is a non-profit 501(3)C based in New York City. The mission of the BAU Institute is to support visual artists, creative and dramatic writers, composers, performance artists and other arts professionals in the creation and exhibition of new work. BAU Institute offers residencies in France and Italy to provide uninterrupted time and space for the development of new work in settings of cultural interest and extraordinary natural beauty.
The BAU at Camargo residency in Cassis, France provides BAU funded Fellowships to visual artists, writers, composers, and other creative professionals, who demonstrate a serious commitment to their craft and a desire to work independently within an international community. Fellows receive a live-work apartment and studio space as needed at the Camargo Foundation at no cost. A public exhibition and reading/performance will be held at FiveMyles gallery in Brooklyn, NY in January 2017 to showcase the new work created at the residency. Up to 15 Fellows may be in residence, where the focus is the development of each artist's creative project.
Cassis is a charming village, directly on the Mediterranean Sea , offering a spectacular backdrop for the residency.

BAU Institute Puglia Residency for Artists and Writers, 2016

The BAU Institute/Puglia Residency for Artists and Writers is located in a beautifully restored, 16th Century stone Masseria in the Salento countryside. The extensive grounds include gardens, covered terraces, an oversized swimming pool, and paths for strolling or biking through hectares of centenarian olive groves. The Masseria is also a working farm, producing much of the fresh produce for our meals. A small seaside village with fresh markets, restaurants and beautiful Adriatic beaches are just 1 km from the Masseria. The baroque city of Lecce is a 15-minute drive.
Costs: The Residency Fee for the BAU Institute Puglia Residency includes private rooms and bathrooms and meals as described on our website. The programming includes guided visits to Lecce, Otranto, Galatina and other important cultural centers in the area. The intimate group of ten Fellows and two directors will also enjoy music festivals and beach excursions to nearby Adriatic and Ionian coasts. The residency directors will lead discussions on issues in contemporary art and writing and will be available for personalized professional development .
