Artist submissions sought for Citizens of Earth, a virtual group exhibition that traverses an imagined, borderless world and makes visible the shared characteristics of global citizenship. From depiction of the mundane to themes of science-fiction, Citizens of Earth seeks to uncover what goes unsaid and unseen.
The curators, Daria Hassan (Rome), Bex McNally (Amsterdam) and Brydie Scott (London), invite artists to explore the phenomena that humans share; the elements of identity, habit and experience that form invisible but impenetrable networks across the earth. We wake up, we sleep, we talk, we connect. We all feel the grass beneath our feet and the wind blowing against us. We are a single species made from the same particles and spread on one surface: the Earth.
The virtual exhibition will be located on Mozilla Hubs. This is a 3D platform that can also house 2D images, video and audio. Depending on artist preference, sculptural work, installation and projection can be represented in 3D. The nature of exhibiting virtually creates an interesting challenge for the artist; it will no doubt be a new adventure for those who have not yet worked within a digital space. We are interested in artworks of all media that will thrive in an online environment and act to create an immersive experience that challenges the virtual and in-real-life dichotomy.
Citizens of Earth launches on the 5th November 2021 in a digital space accessible to visitors from all over the planet. The exhibition aims to engage senses and unite minds to reinforce human connectedness.
