It is no coincidence that variants of the colour grey appear frequently in Le Ruez’s work, a tone derived from fusing the definite colours of black and white. For the artist, grey represents a point of confluence; a place where elements merge and where two seemingly distinct colours are transformed into an indefinite, liberating tone.
Ultimately interested in a position of non-absolutes, Le Ruez adopts an open stance; the result bringing forth works that invite, facilitate and encourage a variety of potential readings. The colour grey and its ambiguous associations, appears to have become an important component in his desire to operate within a region of numerous possibilities.
