Looking East from Les Monts. 2009
Pigmented inkjet print. 50 x 75 cm
When viewed as installed works, Looking East from Les Monts (2009) and the triptych Looking West from Les Monts (2006) are displayed respectively on easterly and westerly walls. As they face each other, the three small delicately framed works on the western wall partly reflect the large inkjet print positioned on the eastern.

In this installation Le Ruez alludes to a position of stability, yet the pieces encourage a viewpoint that looks beyond the displayed, into areas that are unknown, imagined and subject to change. Standing between these photographs, which refer to the same area of land, we are offered a central view informed by two opposing geographical positions. Imperative to our appreciation of Le Ruez’s work is the recognition of a singular vision; a vision both created and inspired by the contrasts, affinities and essential contradictions that surround us all.
