Summary

Open Call for an exceptional opportunity for photographers to exhibit in Arles and have exposure for almost 3 months, during and alongside the renowned Les Rencontres d’Arles festival, in the magnificent settings of Galerie Huit. Arles is the highlight of the international photography calendar, running from 2 July to 23 September 2012. In 2011 festival attendees were estimated at 84,000, including prominent collectors, curators, gallerists, artists, publishers and photographers from around the world. As part of the same entry the selected artists will also be showcased in an exhibition in South East Asia in early 2013.

Arles Photography Open Salon at Galerie Huit http://www.photographyopensalon.com/ is an International Photography Open Call designed to showcase cutting-edge contemporary and emerging photography from around the world, promote new work by talented artists enabling them to exhibit and give them exposure during and alongside the renowned international photography festival Les Rencontres d’Arles in 2012, as well as in South-East Asia in 2013.

In 2011, Artists from 52 countries participated and 112 Artists from 32 countries were showcased in Arles, France in 2011 as well as in Penang, Malaysia in early 2012.

This year Arles exhibition will run from 2nd Jul - 23rd Sep 2012. Exhibition in South East Asian will be in early 2013.

Audience and Exposure

The exhibited Artists will be given the opportunity to have their work seen in 2012 for almost 3 months by many prominent international industry professionals who attend Les Rencontres d’Arles every year. In 2011 attendees were estimated at 84,000, including prominent collectors, curators, gallerists, artists, publishers and photographers from around the world. In addition the selected artist will be exhibited in South East Asia in early 2013. The 2011 Arles exhibition was showcased earlier this year in Penang, Malaysia for 4 weeks. 

Prizes, Awards and Opportunities

Awards will be granted in recognition of the photographer’s contribution to the art of photography in the areas of creativity, conceptual strength and technical skill.

• Winning images will be showcased and offered for sale for almost 3 months in Galerie Huit Arles from 2nd Jul until 23rd Sep 2012 during and alongside the renowned international photography festival 'Les Rencontres d’Arles' in France
• In addition a selection of works will be exhibited and offered for sale in early 2013 in Photography Open Salon South-East Asia.
• The winning selection of images selected for the exhibition will be printed by Photography Open Salon, at the size determined by Photography Open Salon, due to the constraints of the Galerie Huit unusual walls and varied installation spaces. Artists also have the option to send their own prints as long as they are the specified size.
• The exhibited images will be offered for sale. The photographers will receive 50% of the sale proceeds if their work is sold.

Submission requirements, Format and Size for Submissions

Open to all, the applicants can be at any stage of their career.

Each entry must be a JPG image not more than 1024 pixels on the longest side and not more than 1MB in size. Images must be saved as familyname_name_imagenumber i.e smith_john_o1.jpg.

The short listed artists will then be asked to submit high resolution images which will be printed by the Photography Open Salon at a size determined by the Photography Open Salon. Artists retain copyright for all their work.

Housed in a former furniture factory, Angelika Studios includes a gallery space and cinema. The prize is calling for photographic essays, documentaries and conceptual projects that relate to the 2012 London Festival of Photography theme, InsideOut: Reflections on the Public and the Private.

The emphasis of the prize is on visual storytelling. Projects must work together as a whole and include some sort of narrative structure. We are not looking for single images or commercially-oriented work.

The prize is open to all photographers aged 18+, anywhere in the world.

As the festival expands in 2012, the London Festival of Photography Prize is an opportunity for photographers to submit projects for inclusion in a world-class exhibition celebrating the annual festival theme. Each year the festival will explore a relevant and far-reaching theme through photographic exhibitions, workshops, participatory activities and debates.

This prestigious prize will achieve critical acclaim for the chosen winners. Every entry will be seen by a judging panel of internationally renowned experts. The Street Photography Awards exhibition run by the festival in 2011 was seen by 6,000 visitors and the winners and finalists have had their images published worldwide. The exhibition sat alongside the festival’s Vivian Maier exhibition, listed by the Observer as one of 2011's top 10 photography shows in the UK.

There are two options for submission:
the photo-series category (still images only) and
the photo-film category (multimedia)

Why are there two categories?
Projects combining photography, moving image, sound and graphics have become important aspects of online journalism and story telling. This prize aims to salute those practitioners and discover who is creating the most exciting multimedia projects today. At the same time, we recognise the power of a carefully edited set of images that stand strong without additional effects.

British Council in partnership with ArtSchool Palestine and Delfina Foundation are pleased to invite curators and artists from the UK and Palestine to apply for two-month residencies in Palestine with ArtSchool Palestine and in London with Delfina Foundation.

Points of Departure (PoD) aims to encourage creative exchange between Palestine and the UK and to provide an opportunity for research, public engagement, and the production of new artworks to be showcased in London and Palestine in 2013. Six artists will be selected to take part in this project, three from Palestine and three based in the UK. Additionally, one curator from Palestine and one curator from the UK will be selected to support the production and curation of the resultant exhibition.

ComPeung is located in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai Province, Northern Thailand. Despite just being 20 km northeast of the city of Chiang Mai, Doi Saket has escaped the tourism trap so far. Due to its position Doi Saket is also the gateway to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. With diverse local and ethnic communities traditional northern everyday culture is still very much alive in Doi Saket.

ComPeung is the first non-government artist-in-residence programme in Thailand. Our residency program is designed for local, international artists, and creative individuals to live and work together with the ComPeung Team and the local communities through the process of creating artworks, developing conceptual projects as well as participating in workshops and other ComPeung activities.

Platte Clove Artists-in-Residence, The Catskill Center, NY

Since the early 1800’s and the beginning of the American Landscape movement, the Catskill escarpment has remained an enduring source of artistic inspiration for generations of artists. Our residency, the only one in the country situated in the historic landscapes which were the inspiration for the Hudson River School, provides a tranquil and rustic workplace. A retreat for artists, working in a variety of disciplines, located in the living landscape where American art began.

The residency at the Platte Clove cabin is near the towns of Tannersville, Hunter, and Windham in upstate New York. Situated at the Catskill Center’s Platte Clove Nature Preserve, artists will reside in a rustic cabin in the middle of 208 wild, pristine acres full of hiking trails, multi-tiered waterfalls, and old growth forests. The cabin is located along Platte Kill Creek, and on several popular trail heads. Hikers are commonly seen around the cabin.

In the cabin there is electricity, a wood stove, cook-top stove, refrigerator, and a telephone. The cabin does not have running water—there is an outhouse behind the building and no showers. 

The residency is open to visual artists, writers, poets, composers, performing artists, and environmental researchers who have an affinity for the natural world. Artists can choose to stay from a couple of days to a full week, depending on availability. The work produced should foster an appreciation of the environment through the aesthetics of art. An exhibition will be held biannually at the Catskill Center’s Erpf Gallery in Arkville. The exhibited works will be chosen from among all the pieces completed during the residencies or inspired by time in the cabin. The work may be traditional or experimental.

General Information

SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT
The cabin provides three twin beds on the second floor and working tables on the main floor but residents are required to bring their own linens and/or a sleeping bag, phone cards, and food supplies.  There is a wood stove in the living area for cool nights and though it is summer, it is advised that you bring a light jacket. Many of the inspirational vistas can only be reached by foot and hiking boots are suggested. You must also bring whatever equipment you need to conduct your work.

LOCATION
The Platte Clove cabin is located in a remote section of the Catskills. The nearest grocery store and hospital are 7 miles away. It is suggested that applicants have access to a car during the residency.

PETS
Pets are not allowed in the Platte Clove cabin.

ELIGIBILITY
The Artist-in-Residence program accepts residents on the basis of talent and need. It does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of age, race, handicap, sex, religion, marital status, or national origin. Please be aware that the Platte Clove cabin is located in a remote area of the Catskill Mountains. Applicants should be able to walk some steep grades and carry personal items down steps into the cabin. Unfortunately, the cabin is not wheelchair accessible.

DATES OF RESIDENCY
The cabin is open for residencies from July 1 through September 30. Residencies typically run from 3 days to 1 week.

ORIENTATION MEETING
There will be a lunch orientation meeting at the cabin with all accepted applicants during the last week of May or the first week of June. This meeting is mandatory for all accepted artists.

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE SHOW
Artists selected for the residency will be asked to submit artwork completed or inspired during the residency for inclusion in a show at the Catskill Center’s Erpf Gallery.

FEES
There is a $30 application fee for the Artist-In-Residence Program. The stay in the Platte Clove Cabin is free of charge.

The Festival of Regions has been exploring and conquering a region or a town in Upper Austria every two years since 1993. Far from the metropolises and cultural centres, a program with contemporary art and culture is designed and communicated to all the residents of a chosen region. Apart from regional, national and international participation by creative artistic and cultural agents, collaboration with local associations, institutions and individuals is sought to anchor the festival in the area and thus leave behind traces that are as deep and distinct as can be. Apart from reinforcing and furthering regional initiatives in the cultural sector, raising awareness of cultural developments is one of the festival's aims in combination with the aspects of communication, open dialogue and interconnecting everyday culture and art

The festival venue of Eferding is known principally as a commercial vegetable growing area, especially as a supplier of mini-gherkins that are harvested by the legendary 'gherkin flyers.' It is less well-known that Eferding, founded in 1222, is the third oldest town in Austria and can look back on an eventful history that stretches from the Nibelung saga via the peasant uprisings up to the dominant royal house of the Starhembergers. This time we will be engaging with a conservative, good middle-class town. As always at the Festival of Regions, the public domain will serve as both a space for artistic action and a hospitable meeting place. There is a variety of interior spaces in the town available for performances and installations. From the centre the festival program can expand into the nearby environs.

Digging Up is the motto for the Eferding Festival of Regions. On the one hand, this suits the agricultural character of the place, and on the other, digging up can also bring to the light of day things that have been hidden and covered up. In any case, things first have to be dug up if something new is to grow, if new fruits are to be harvested. The motto is therefore a metaphor for planting today's art and culture, whereby rare plants and blossoms are hoped for in all possible mutations and variations.

Call for submissions
Project proposals are invited from all artistic areas and genres. In an atmosphere of openness, projects with local specificity will be given preference nonetheless, along with endeavours that engage with the town's social history and draw in as many strata of the population and individual positive forces as possible, for which role we will gladly function as mediator. Connotations with the festival motto of Digging Up will also be considered. However, please do not submit already-made projects without any connection to the festival's location or theme.

INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Now entering its fourth year, Low Lives is an international festival of live performance-based works transmitted via the internet and projected in real time at multiple venues throughout the U.S. and around the world. Low Lives examines works that critically investigate, challenge, and extend the potential of performance practice presented live through online broadcasting networks. These networks provide a new alternative and efficient medium for presenting, viewing, and archiving performances. Artists working in any media are invited to submit proposals for live performance-based works.

Selection Process:
Each Presenting Partner (see list below) will follow their curatorial process to select one performance to take place at their venue. In addition, 36 artists will be selected from artist proposals responding to this Call for Artists, and will be invited to present their work across the Low Lives network. These performances will be transmitted through the internet from a location of the artists’ choice. The Selections Committee will be comprised of Directors and Curators from Presenting Partner institutions and Low Lives’ production team.

Artists selected to participate in this exhibition will be instructed on how to transmit their performance through a live online broadcasting network. Performances will be projected in real time across the Low Lives 4 network of Presenting Partners and venues. The exhibit will also be available for online viewing, both in real time as it unfolds across political boundaries and time zones, and on the Low Lives website after the event.

A full-color catalog and companion DVD with information and an image for each participating artist will be produced for Low Lives 4 after the exhibition takes place. Founding Director / Producer
Born in Morelos, México, Jorge Rojas is a multidisciplinary artist and curator. Rojas’ work and curatorial projects have been exhibited internationally. In 2009, Rojas founded Low Lives, where he currently serves as Director, Producer, and Curator.

Chez Bushwick, an artist-run organization based in Brooklyn, is dedicated to the advancement of interdisciplinary art and performance, with a strong focus on new choreography. Since its inception in 2002, the organization has been acknowledged as a new model for economic sustainability in the performing arts, offering $8/hour subsidized  rehearsal space, and thereby fostering the creation, development, and performance of new work. Chez Bushwick is also responsible for a number of performance programs that encourage artistic freedom, collaboration, and creative risk-taking. www.chezbushwick.net

Co-Producer
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Juan Obando received a BA in Industrial Design with a minor in Architecture and Urbanism from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. In 2005 he started the ongoing BZC Media Corporation Project (an international art unit based in Bogotá, with cells in Venezuela, USA, and The Netherlands,) and has subsequently been exhibiting throughout The USA, Germany, The Netherlands, Australia, Colombia and Venezuela. His work has been selected twice for Colombia’s “Salon Nacional de Artistas” (2008, 2010) and reviewed by different international publications. After receiving an MFA in Electronic and Time-Based Art from Purdue University, Juan currently works between Colombia and The USA and holds a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Elon University in North Carolina. www.juanobando.com

The Way Forward: Film Screening, Nottingham UK

The Way Forward - Film Screening:
We are looking to present silent, short films that look at the history of moving image development. The screening will illustrate works that explore archaic images and methods of film making, looking at repetition and pattern and artists who examine the similarities found in the past and present, creating new ideas for the 21st Century.

CAST Film Programme:
Throughout 2012 CAST bar will present artists moving image, to coinside with three exhibitions taking place at Nottingham Playhouse. At the end of the year, one artist will be selected to receive a £500 commission to produce a new film. To be considered for the commission you must be selected for the film program.

Digital Stage:
The Cutting Room are proud to present their new Digital Arts Programme, Digital Stage which will be hosted at Nottingham Playhouse for 2012. Digital Stage will respond to Nottingham Playhouse's artistic programme and present three exhibition over the course of the year. Funded by Arts Council England to encourage growth and development for digital arts within the EastMidlands.
