The only scheme of its kind in the UK, FLAMIN Productions commissions new, single screen works that are ambitious in premise and duration. From Ben Rivers to Laure Prouvost, the scheme has a history of supporting the brightest talents working in London, helping them to produce works that represent a significant leap in their career.

FLAMIN Productions is unique in its approach as it not only provides artist film-makers with the development and production finance to produce ambitious and original moving image works. It also delivers professional development and bespoke mentoring opportunities.

Now in its fifth round, this major commissioning scheme from Film London and Arts Council England will offer up to £40,000 of production funding to three projects. Following the initial application process, a number of projects will be shortlisted for interview, and up to three will then be invited to develop a fully worked-up application for the award.

Preference will be given to projects with the potential to reach a wide national and international audience through exhibition in galleries, screening spaces, cinemas, festivals, or other platforms.

The Process

FLAMIN Productions is based around an open submission process, through which up to three projects are selected to receive development support. Following the initial shortlisting process, a number of applications will be invited to interview. Up to three projects will then be selected for the development process.

If yours is selected, you will have access to:

    £1,000 development bursary
    Up to £1,000 for an external mentoring or advice session
    Access to specialist expertise

If this process is successful you are then invited to re-submit your project for consideration for production finance of between £20,000 and £40,000. Up to three projects will be awarded.

We will email you by the end of July to let you know whether or not your work has been shortlisted.

This is a rolling development programme which takes into account the different development timelines for individual projects. If you are selected, you will be able to re-submit your proposals for production funding between:

ARTIST OPPORTUNITY 1:

International call for Proposals with partner Northern Film & Media
Deadline: 11am GMT 28 May 2014

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival in partnership with Northern Film & Media invite transnational filmmakers and visual artists to submit a proposal to create a new moving image work for Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The piece of work will be premiered at the 10th edition of the internationally acclaimed Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival in September 2014.

Visual artists and filmmakers from anywhere in the world are invited to submit proposals that relate to the Festival theme of Border Crossing in a broad variety of approaches, anticipating that the work will be projected, installed or screened, either for single or multi-channel presentation, indoors or outdoors.
If successful the artist or filmmaker would receive £5,000 to cover artists’ fees and necessary travel, including attending the Festival in September to premier your work.

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is a celebration of the art of film, set on the border between England and Scotland and with a global remit. Northern Film & Media is a screen-based media and creative development agency based in North East England committed to driving film, TV and digital arts projects internationally.

ARTIST OPPORTUNITY 2:

Open call for submissions to the 10th edition of Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival
Deadline: 1pm GMT 16 June 2014

We are now accepting submissions for our Festival programme; entries will be considered for all areas of the Festival programme, including installations, screenings, and short film programmes - as well as the 2nd Inntravel Short Film Award.

Each year, the Festival is curated to a theme, and this year we focus on ‘Border Crossing’ – taking audiences on a journey, starting in the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and travelling, migrating and transcending borders in all directions.

Works submitted to the Festival should explore themes of cultural heritage, changing identities from individual to societal and cultural, travel and migration, and the crossing of boundaries.

Within this theme, we encourage film and moving image submissions of all types and lengths including narrative and experimental, live action and animation, fiction and documentary.

All single screen works under 20 minutes in length will automatically be eligible for selection for the Inntravel Short Film Award. The competitive programme will be selected by the Festival’s curators, and the winning work will be awarded by a professional jury during the Festival, where £750 (approx. €900) will be donated towards the artist/director’s next project.

Soft Machines Curators
The selection process for external festival curators is currently underway. The curators will shape the programme for the Impakt Festival 2014 'Soft Machines (working title): Where the Optimized Human Meets Artificial Empathy' which will be held from 29 October – 2 November 2014.
In addition, we're also opening a call to international artists to apply for the Impakt Works residency programme in Utrecht. We encourage projects connected to the Soft Machines theme. These residencies will take place between April and October. Read more on the submission guidelines here. Deadline for proposals: 1 April 2014.

NEWS: Impakt Festival and Panorama Festival
Impakt will be separating two festival components in 2014. The thematic Impakt Festival will be held in the autumn as usual (29/10-02/11) and will feature lectures, screenings, exhibitions, music and more. The Panorama programme, a fresh and wide-angled overview of recent media and video arts, will be reconstituted as an independent summer event.

In May 2014, vkunst frankfurt presents for the sixth time current tendencies of international video art in the city centre of Frankfurt am Main, from MMK Museum of Modern Art to the Main river. Showing projections, interactive installations and animated computer art by about 40 artists, the windows of 25 galleries and shops will transform Frankfurt's Fahrgasse street into a 'roofless exhibition hall' for two evenings. vkunst frankfurt takes place annually and provides a constant platform for both established artists and young talents from all countries. On the second day (Saturday), the exhibition runs alongside the Frankfurt Night of the Museums.

MOTIVE 2014: 'mon amie, l'image'

We live in pictures. They are a part of every life, and everyone has built his or her personal relationship with them. In visual art, reality and fiction become pictorial. The artist's results are manifold and direct. The picture in itself can be both friend and enemy. It is part of the family and of life. This is particularly true in the artist's view and phantasy. The artists work with pictures in their heads every day, in nature, on the wall in front of their eyes. Friendships and relationships form. If one separates from one's work, the putative friendship lasts. To a friend one may say everything, ask him everything, love and hate him; he can be beautiful or ugly, boring or exciting. Which friend do I prefer to be seen with and which friendship is too intimate for public disclosure, or are there no boundaries at all? This is particularly true in the artist's view and phantasy. The artists work with the pictures in their heads every day, in nature, on the wall in front of their eyes. Friendships and relationships form. 'mon amie, l'image' is this year's title of vkunst frankfurt. It is in its nature that art is primarily a visual experience for the viewer. With this in mind, the curators of vkunstfrankfurt, Christoph von Lőw and Andreas Greulich, let themselves be guided in their concept of the sensuous-pictorial aspect of video art. What meaning may the image have for the video artist? Is it just an end in itself and appearances? Is the aesthetic deliberately negated, and the improvised, i.e. the non-professional, emphasized? What does the examination of the picture of our time place emphasis on? It is the task of vkunst Frankfurt 2014 to investigate this.


VKUNST AWARD 2014 BY JOCHEN LATZ

As in 2013, the media art prize 'vkunst', donated by Jochen Latz and endowed with 2,500 Euros, will be awarded. An independent jury of curators and art theoreticians will choose the award winner for the best exhibited work.

Central Productions, a local organization that supports area filmmakers operating outside the mainstream, is now accepting submissions for the 12th annual Boston Cinema Census. Deadline to apply is March 15.

The yearly screening, organized by Central Productions, provides an intimate and entertaining way for New England filmmakers to present their work to a film-loving audience. The indie showcase takes place at 7 p.m. April 10 at the historic Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle Street, Cambridge.

The goal of the Boston Cinema Census is to encourage and bolster local filmmakers by creating an atmosphere of community support, said Chris Gaines, Executive Director of Central Productions.

“We’re not about competition – we see so much talent in this region,” Gaines said. “Really, our objective is to provide a supportive platform and an open dialogue within the community – and also to have fun! We pack the house with filmmakers and aficionados; it’s a celebration of talent.”

Last year, more than 100 entries were submitted to the Boston Cinema Census, with pieces representing a wide scope of creative work. John Gianvito, a director and producer known for movies such as Profit Motive and the Whispering Wind and Far from Afghanistan, called the 2013 screening “a very strong and diverse group of films that left me feeling reinvigorated about the Boston film community.”

This year, Central Productions has worked diligently to expand its outreach and continue to represent the diversity and ingenuity of the New England filmmaking community. “We want to continue to be the hub of non-commercial film in the greater Boston area,” Gaines said.

“Workshops, events and social media efforts are helping us bring visibility to the talent here,” he said. “At the same time, we want to continue to support emerging artistic talent and raise the bar for Boston’s dynamic indie film scene.”

Video artists from all over the world are invited to submit their works for the forth edition of International Video Art Festival 'Now&After'. 

International Video Art Festival 'Now&After' is an annual event held in Moscow, Russia, and traditionally hosted by a museum. During several weeks 'Now&After' festival program is being demonstrated as a unique integrated video installation that includes all participants' works. Apart from general demonstration, one video of the program is being presented every day, and during that day it is being demonstrated on the designated screen as video installation called 'Video Now'.

Only works by the author/creator may be tendered. It is possible to tender more than one work. For every work use a separate entry form. Requested are current tenders (not older than 2011) which are current and gain quality by being presented at the mumok cinema, Vienna. 

The selection will be proceded by the fullframe association and will cover worldwide productions and various formats and media, which have been produced from 2011 onwards, respectively in exceptional cases unseen elder works. 

We have a special interest in artistic solutions, which are technically experimental or in some way ground-breaking. 

fullframe (together with the mumok cinema team) selects from the tendered works and will arrange a program. The author cannot claim his work to be shown. 

The selected works respectively artists will be announced on the website. Because of organizational reasons there won’t be a rejection letter. We hope for your understanding.
